The metaphor of water and life is a constant reminder that we, like water, find ways around the boulders life puts in the way. It's a pleasant description about trouble and triumph. What many don't know about a river, unless an avid river rat or fly fisher, are the pools that tug a boat out of the torrential current and float the boat upstream. These pools, these eddies, are a more applicable metaphor.
Imagine a life constantly slipping through slots between boulders, churning backwards upon yourself then back into the current that slams you into granite cliffs and pebbled shores. A tumultuous ride. The eddy provides respite from this turbulent tenure.
These tarns will swirl the current up stream for a moment of meditation. This is the better metaphor. Feel the breeze brush your cheek, look for Bighorned sheep tip toeing across ridge lines. The deluge of progression can wait.
